We aim to have regard to the DFEE code of practice (2001) on the identification and assessment of special educational needs. We will do whatever we can and make reasonable adjustments to enable every child to be fully included in all activities and to achieve progress that is at least in line with his/her potential. With support from other early years professionals, arrangements will be made to ensure appropriate assessment and support for children and to provide a welcome and appropriate learning environment for all. Our ‘Special Educational Needs Co-ordinator ‘(SENCO) will work in liaison with other professional bodies outside the nursery in order to meet children’s specific needs and an Individual Educational Plan (IEP) will be issued, which outlines the support given and set targets to be achieved. Arrangements with staff will allow 1-1 ratio where possible.
